Privacy Policy for SkipBait
Last updated: July 2, 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to SkipBait ("we," "our," "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains
how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our browser extension.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Article URLs: When you request a summary, we process the URL of the article to fetch its
content for summarization. These URLs are sent to our backend server but are not stored long-term in association
with your user ID.
- Usage Data: We collect anonymous data about your interaction with the extension, such as the
number of summaries you generate ("summaryCount"). This helps us manage usage limits for our free tier.
- User ID: We generate a random, anonymous unique user ID ("userId") to manage your subscription
status and summary count. This ID is not linked to your personal identity.
- Subscription Information: If you subscribe to our service, our payment processor, Stripe, will
collect your payment information. We receive a customer ID ("stripeCustomerId") and subscription status
("subscriptionStatus") from Stripe, which we store to manage your account. We do not have access to your credit
card details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect in the following ways:
- To provide and maintain the summarization service.
- To manage your subscription and enforce usage limits.
- To improve the functionality and user experience of the extension.
- To communicate with you, including responding to your inquiries and providing support.
4. Data Storage and Security
We are committed to protecting your data. The anonymous `userId`, `summaryCount`, and `subscriptionStatus` are
stored using `chrome.storage.sync`, which syncs across your logged-in Chrome browsers. We implement reasonable
security measures to protect your information, but no security system is impenetrable.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Vercel: Our backend, which processes article URLs and generates summaries, is hosted on Vercel.
- Stripe: We use Stripe for payment processing and managing subscriptions. Stripe's use of your
personal information is governed by their privacy policy.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to understand what data we collect. As the data we store is anonymous or pseudonymous, your
primary right is to reset your stored data by uninstalling and reinstalling the extension. If you have a
subscription, you can manage it through the "Manage Subscription" button in the extension popup, which will take you
to the Stripe customer portal.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy
Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
8. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at skipbait.app@gmail.com.
